Medvedev called the agreement with Russia the only guarantee of security for Ukraine

The real security guarantees that Kyiv is trying to get in the West can only be provided by an agreement with Russia, said Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

“It is clear to everyone that no [другие] the neighbors cannot give them any guarantees, even if they hate Russia fiercely. <...> Only an agreement with Russia could provide security guarantees. But the Ukrainian government, stimulated by Western money and rockets, refused it,” wrote he is in his Telegram channel.

According to Medvedev, Ukraine will not be accepted into NATO, since the alliance consists of “Russophobes, but not suicides.” In addition, the Ukrainian authorities understand, he believes, that there can be no security guarantees for them. Now the administration of US President Joe Biden is “making money” on the Ukrainian conflict, but the next team will do the same, Medvedev added.

Also on August 23, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Andriy Yermak declaredthat a document on international security guarantees for Ukraine may appear by the end of August. He did not give any details, only calling the document “very powerful.”

In early July, Zelensky announced on his Telegram channel that former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, along with Yermak, would lead a platform to develop security guarantees for Ukraine. Then the head of Zelensky’s office said that they should not only cover the military, political, financial and other areas, but also include the sanctions policy.

Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held peace talks several times. The last meeting was held on March 29 in Istanbul.
