Medvedev called Borrell an April Fool’s Day specialist

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev called the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell a great specialist in the April Fool’s Day. Thus, the politician reacted to Borrell’s statement about Russia’s chairmanship of the UN Security Council, which began on April 1.

“Well, Borrell is a big expert on April Fools’ Day. This is his day,” Medvedev tweeted in English.

Borrell had previously stated that April 1 fits well with Russia’s occupation of the chair of the UN Security Council on the same day. “Despite the fact that Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council, it constantly violates the very essence of the UN legal framework. The European Union will oppose any abuse by the Russian presidency,” he wrote.

First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky in the Telegram channel declaredthat Russia will be an honest broker, and attempts to provoke it are doomed to failure. According to him, the UN “still has international law and rules of procedure developed over decades, and not the “rule-based order” with which the collective West is trying to replace international law.”

Formerly The Guardian newspaper wrotethat the US, UK, France and their supporters in the Council may express their disagreement with Moscow’s chairmanship and lower the level of representation at the events that Russia will host during the month. Prior to this, the United States urged Russia to “behave professionally” when it assumes this role.
