Medvedev appreciated the meeting of EU foreign ministers on the issue of issuing visas to Russian citizens

EU politicians will show their true attitude towards the Russians if they introduce a ban on the issuance of Schengen visas, wrote Deputy Chairman of the Security Council (SB) Dmitry Medvedev in his Telegram channel.
“The Europeans will once again show their true colors and will less distract Russia and its citizens from conducting a special military operation with lies and delusional promises,” Medvedev wrote, urging the Europeans to quickly introduce a complete ban on the issuance of Schengen visas.
An informal meeting of EU foreign ministers takes place from 30 to 31 August in Prague. It will discuss the continuation of military, political and financial assistance to Ukraine, as well as visa restrictions for Russians.
Germany has already proposed to EU countries to suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia. According to German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, this refers, in particular, to the termination of the issuance of multi-year Schengen visas to Russian citizens. This step, Burbock believes, will be a compromise between countries that want to completely ban Russians from entering the EU, and countries that are not ready for such measures.
The discussion about the ban on the issuance of Schengen visas has been actively discussed in Europe since the beginning of August. So, Latvia, Lithuania and the Czech Republic have already suspended the issuance of visas to Russians, and Estonia decided to close the borders for Russian citizens with visas that were issued by the republic. Finland also restricted the issuance of visas. Today, the initiative to stop issuing visas to Russians was supported by the Netherlands.
