Medvedev appreciated Johnson’s proposal to accept Ukraine into NATO without conditions

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson should be admitted without conditions to a psychiatric hospital, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev. This is how he commented on the British politician’s statement that Ukraine should have been accepted into the North Atlantic Alliance without conditions.

“He, a retired fool, should be accepted without conditions to a psychiatric hospital. That’s where he will be able to portray among his tough guy, demanding to start the third world, ”- wrote Medvedev in his Telegram channel.

Johnson following the NATO summit in Vilnius outlined his opinion about Ukraine in a block in a column for the Daily Mail. On July 12, the G7 countries adopted a joint statement on security guarantees for Ukraine and promised to provide it with “permanent” operational military and financial assistance, but the country was not invited to NATO following the summit.

“So what are they afraid of? When NATO leaders arrived in Vilnius this week, it was very clear what they had to do,” Johnson wrote.

In his opinion, all the alliance needed to do was “set a schedule, not an instant membership.” In addition, statements were needed that accession could begin as soon as hostilities ended, “on the understanding that this could be as early as next year.”

“All Ukrainians have received this week is an ‘invitation’ to join NATO ‘when the Allies agree and when the conditions are met. Not surprisingly, President Zelensky found it difficult to hide his disappointment at first. When do allies agree? When are the conditions met? According to the Bucharest conclusions, the allies agreed on all this 15 years ago!” Johnson stated.

Moscow has previously reacted negatively to the decision of the G7 to provide security guarantees to Kyiv. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the decision violated the principle of the indivisibility of security. “That is, by providing security guarantees to Ukraine, they encroach on the security of the Russian Federation,” Peskov said. The consequences of such actions, he added, could be “very, very negative.”
