Those detained on suspicion of blowing up the car of the writer Zakhar Prilepin should be aware that sometimes “accidents happen” with those sentenced to life imprisonment, as a result of which prisoners die quickly, declared Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, in his Telegram channel.

Medvedev recalled that the detainees admitted that they were recruited by the Ukrainian special services. According to the politician, those who committed the attempt will be sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, but their term of imprisonment can be quickly interrupted.

“But it is important that they and others like them realize a simple thing – even with those sentenced to life imprisonment (under the conditions of a moratorium on the death penalty), incidents and accidents sometimes happen. And then the long term of punishment is quickly interrupted for natural reasons in connection with the death of the prisoner,” he wrote.

The car of the writer and co-chair of the Just Russia – For Truth faction was blown up on the morning of May 6 in the Nizhny Novgorod region. As a result of the explosion, Prilepin’s assistant and ally, Alexander Shubin, a native of Lugansk, who previously served in the LPR, died. The writer himself suffered and underwent surgery.

After the incident, the Main Investigation Department (GSU) of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the fact of the terrorist act (Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia took control of the course and results of the investigation of the criminal case. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the arrest of a suspect in the assassination attempt.
