Medvedev allowed the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by other countries

In his opinion, the question of the prospects for such recognition “is connected with the general geopolitical situation,” and it is clear that Russia’s decision to recognize “did not arouse enthusiasm in the West.”

“Of course, we don’t know what will happen next, but I am sure that history will sooner or later put everything in its place, and states that want to recognize them and are not afraid of the opinion of Western comrades will be able to do this,” the politician said.

Medvedev stressed that for the emergence of a state, the very fact of recognition is necessary, and it “should not be recognized by a certain number of countries, or by the UN, or by some qualified majority.” He pointed out that other territories are in a similar situation, in particular, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
