Media: Vilnius turned into a “fortress” on the eve of the NATO summit

NATO countries have turned Vilnius into a “fortress” protected by modern weapons, ahead of the alliance’s summit, which will be held there on July 11-12, writes Reuters.
About 1,000 additional troops were deployed to guard the summit, which will take place just 151 kilometers from the border with Russia and 32 kilometers from the border with Belarus, as well as advanced air defense systems not found in the Baltic countries.
“It would be more than irresponsible to leave our skies unprotected at the time of the arrival of (U.S. President Joe) Biden and the leaders of 40 countries,” Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda commented on the increased security.
According to the agency, we are talking, in particular, about 12 Patriot mobile systems supplied by Germany, the NASAMS air defense system supplied by Spain, Caesar French self-propelled howitzers, French, Finnish and Danish military aircraft stationed in Lithuania, as well as British and French means of combating drones. In addition, measures are being taken to counter any potential chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attacks.
It was reported that within the framework of the NATO summit create Ukraine-NATO Council (NAC), the first meeting of which will be held in Vilnius on 12 July. At the same time, Ukraine will not become a member of NATO following this summit, the alliance said earlier.
