Media: Ukraine plans to attract $400 billion in energy investments

Kyiv expects that by 2050 more than $400 billion will be invested in Ukraine’s energy sector, and the country will become “Europe’s energy hub.” Such data is available in the plan for the restoration of Ukrainian energy, which the country’s government is preparing to present on June 21 at an international conference on the restoration of Ukraine in London. This is reported by the Ukrainian edition of Forbes.

The publication notes that the final version of the presentation may differ, since the editors have a project as of June 4. In particular, it says that electricity production in Ukraine by 2050 should increase seven times, gas production – four times, oil – more than six times. Electricity generation, according to the plan, will increase seven times, to 791 TWh, and the capacity of solar and wind power plants will increase 30 times to 230 GW.

In addition, Ukraine plans to localize 90% of the production of small modular reactors and independently produce nuclear fuel. Coal-fired thermal power plants want to be put out of action by 2035 and replaced with thermal power plants and thermal power plants running on natural gas and biomethane.

The Ukrainian authorities expect that the capacity for exporting electricity to the European Union will increase five times to 10 GW. The share of electric vehicles in the country will be 60% or 13.4 million cars, the presentation says. It is noted that the plan is based on a forecast of GDP growth of 9% in 2023-2032 and 3% in 2032-2050.

Director of the Energy Research Center Alexander Kharchenko told the publication that the presented “figures have no connection with reality.” In his opinion, the plans of the Ukrainian authorities “significantly exceed the already ambitious energy strategy” of the country.
