Media: The West is developing peace plans that do not suit Moscow and Kyiv

The West is developing “grand” plans to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which, however, will not suit either Moscow or Kyiv, The Wall Street Journal writes.

Some Western officials are developing grand deals to end the war, but they fall short of the goals of both Kyiv and Moscow.

The WSJ considers Ukraine’s desire to restore its territorial integrity to be a distant prospect, since support from allies is limited, and they fear unnecessary “costs and risks.” “Uncertain” partners of Kyiv, the publication calls the United States and Germany.

Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held talks several times in February and March 2022. On October 4, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree refusing to negotiate with Russia as long as Vladimir Putin is its president.

Zelensky in the fall of 2022 presented a “peace formula”, according to which Ukraine must preserve its territorial integrity. Moscow called the presented plan unrealistic.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that it is open to negotiations, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia will not follow someone else’s conditions, since it focuses only on its own goals and common sense.
