US authorities are much more concerned about the problem of corruption in Ukraine than they publicly admit, fearing that a number of Western allies may refuse to support Kyiv because of it. About it writes Politico, citing a confidential government document.

Too “loud” discussion of this problem could play into the hands of Republican congressmen who are trying to block the allocation of additional aid to Ukraine, Politico notes.

“Any perception of weakening American support for Kyiv could also cause more European countries to think twice about their role,” the newspaper writes.

One American official familiar with the discussions confirmed to the publication that Washington is negotiating with the Ukrainian authorities on reforms to combat corruption and make Ukraine a more attractive place for private investment in the context of further financial support for Kiev.

The US Congress managed to agree on a short-term budget on September 30, which will allow the US government to operate for the next 45 days until the next vote. wrote “Vedomosti”.
