Media: the G7 admitted that the conflict in Ukraine will last at least another six years

The conflict in Ukraine may last another 6-7 years. About it stated Bloomberg is a high-ranking official in one of the European G7 countries.

According to the interlocutor, the allies need to plan financial support for Kyiv for such a long period. Another unnamed senior European official opined that Ukraine would face growing problems due to “insufficient supplies” of Western weapons and heavy casualties.

A US State Department spokesman told reporters that on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the G7 countries agreed that the fighting in Ukraine is likely to continue “in the medium to long term,” the agency notes. At the same time, as officials told Bloomberg, Kyiv remains opposed to the negotiations and does not intend to accept any resolution that does not involve the complete withdrawal of Russian troops.

17 September NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg statedthat we need to be prepared for a protracted conflict in Ukraine. He added that Ukraine “will cease to exist if it stops fighting.” According to the Secretary General, peace is only possible if “Russia lays down its arms.”

Similar opinion on September 19 expressed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to him, it is “absolutely obvious” that the fighting in Ukraine “will not end soon.” According to Erdogan, Russian President Vladimir Putin wants a quick resolution to the conflict.

After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, the parties held negotiations several times in February and March 2022. The last meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022, after which the process was frozen because Kiev withdrew from it.

In October 2022, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree refusing to negotiate with Russia as long as Putin is its president. Russia has repeatedly said that it is open to negotiations, but their holding is impossible because of this document.
