Media: Saudi Arabia will inform Russia of the results of the meeting on Ukraine

Saudi Arabia may inform Russia about the outcome of the meeting on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine in Jeddah, which is scheduled for August 5-6. About it writes Politico newspaper.

“While it is unclear whether Mohammed bin Salman (Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia – Vedomosti) will take part in the meeting this weekend, Saudi Arabia is expected to inform Russia of the outcome,” the publication reports.

Citing the briefing document, Politico writes that 10 topics will be raised at the meeting, including food and energy security, prisoner release, environmental security and the possibility of a war crimes tribunal. It is clarified that the European countries participating in the meeting can meet in advance to agree on their positions.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov informedthat Russia will follow the meeting in Jeddah, noting that “it remains to be fully understood what goals are set and what, in fact, it is planned to conduct” these negotiations. At the same time, he stressed that it is now impossible to reach a peaceful settlement with the participation of Ukraine with the current position of Kyiv on this issue.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova statedthat “if Saudi Arabia’s talks on Ukraine help the West understand the whole dead end of the“ plan [президента Владимира] Zelensky”, then they will not be useless.”

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper reported that up to 30 countries were invited to the meeting, including the UK, South Africa, Poland and EU countries, which have already given their consent to participate. Russia was not invited to this meeting. Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador declaredthat the country is ready to participate in the negotiations in Saudi Arabia, if both sides of the conflict participate in them.
