NOS: Dutch Prime Minister Rutte’s candidacy for the post of NATO Secretary General was supported by 28 countries
28 of 32 NATO member countries supported the candidacy of current Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the post of Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance. The Netherlands Broadcasting Corporation (NOS) reported this on Wednesday, April 3, citing sources.
The TV company’s source reports that over the past ten days, three more countries have supported Rutte’s candidacy for the post of NATO Secretary General, and the number of his supporters has grown to 28. It is noted that he needs to receive the support of four more states, since the appointment requires the approval of all participating states.
NOS reports that Mark Rutte is discussing his possible leadership role in the North Atlantic Alliance with these countries, however, which states they are is not specified.
Earlier, the head of the Estonian government, Kaya Kallas, said on April 2 that does not plan to compete for the position of NATO Secretary General, despite relevant media publications. According to her, reports about the desire to become the secretary general of the Alliance are nothing more than “someone’s April Fool’s joke” and are not true.
