As a result of a skirmish on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, one border guard from the Tajik side was killed, two more were injured. About it informs Sputnik Tajikistan, citing a source in Isfara Central Hospital.

“The victims were taken to the intensive care unit. Now they are under the supervision of doctors,” the source said.

The death of one border guard confirmed RIA Novosti is a source in the power structures of the Sughd region of Tajikistan. In addition, he noted, two wounded border guards were taken to Isfara hospital.

Earlier today, the border service of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan reported about the shootout that took place between the border guards of the two republics. According to the Kyrgyz side, Tajik border guards used mortars.

According to Kyrgyzstan, the border detachment met Tajik border guards, who violated “previously reached agreements” and took up combat positions “on an undescribed section of the state border.” As a result, the Tajik side ignored the demand to leave the territory and opened fire. In response, the Kyrgyz border guards also used weapons. According to preliminary data, there were no dead or injured from the Kyrgyz side.

At the same time, the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan claimthat the Kyrgyz side “for no reason” opened fire first. According to the committee, the Kyrgyz border guards fired four mortar rounds towards the Kekh border post, after which return fire was opened.

After the incident, the head of the Batken regional department of the border service held telephone conversations with the head of the Sughd regional department of the border service of Tajikistan. It is noted that the parties scheduled a meeting to stabilize the situation.
