Media: Japan will change its attitude towards Russia in the new national security strategy

“Raising serious security concerns.” This is how Russia will be included in Japan’s updated national security strategy. This is reported by the Asahi publication, citing sources in government circles.
By the end of the year, the Japanese government has pledged to submit three updated defense documents. Among them are the medium-term defense program, the norms of the national defense program and the national security strategy. There are no final documents yet. Some in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party are pushing to classify Russia’s actions as a “threat” rather than “a cause for concern.”
The current national security strategy of Japan, adopted back in 2013, speaks of the need to develop cooperation in all areas and expand Japanese-Russian relations in general, which “will contribute to the security of Japan.”
