Media: Germany, France and the UK want to withdraw from the JCPOA

Britain, Germany and France will announce plans to violate the terms of the nuclear deal with Iran and refuse to lift sanctions on Tehran, reported newspaper The Guardian.

According to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Program (JCPOA, “nuclear deal”), Iran was to receive the lifting of UN and Western sanctions in response to the reduction and control of its nuclear program. In 2018, US President Donald Trump announced America’s withdrawal from the agreement.

“The decision of the European powers to break the agreement also represents a risk, as it is not clear how Tehran will react at a time when it is already close to being able to produce weapons-grade enriched uranium,” the newspaper writes.

According to her, British and European diplomats announced Iran’s violation of the terms of the JCPOA, they also referred to Tehran’s alleged sale of drones to Russia and plans to supply Moscow with ballistic missiles. In addition, the UN said that the agreement to monitor the Iranian nuclear program has become “very limited and fragmented.”

The 2015 nuclear deal, The Guardian recalls, included a series of dates, or so-called expiration clauses, that required the West to lift sanctions on Tehran, but the agreement was not then expected to be “so widely” violated.

Bloomberg in February wrotethat the level of enrichment of uranium with the 235 isotope has been brought by Iran to 84%, which is not much lower than the 90% required for weapons-grade uranium. Behruz Kamalvandi, a spokesman for the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, denied that the country was enriched in uranium with the uranium-235 isotope above 60%. He called the objectives of the Bloomberg material “defamation” and “distortion of facts.” According to him, the presence of individual small particles of uranium with a share of uranium-235 above 60% in the enrichment process does not mean enrichment to weapons level.
