Business Insider says that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ hybrid air defense systems, called FrankenSAM, have shown NATO’s vulnerability.
Retired American Marine Colonel Mark Cancian believes that the use of such weapons by the Ukrainian Armed Forces indicates a lack of ground-based air defense systems in the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, including the United States.
The military expert also noted that Russia’s military actions show the need for such weapons for NATO if the alliance wants to be prepared for future conflicts. It was previously reported that Washington began developing FrankenSAM in 2022, using components from both Soviet and Western weapons. The White House said the Pentagon has provided Ukraine with data to begin local production of some hybrid air defense systems.
