Media: Donetsk shelled by cluster munitions

Donets was shelled by cluster munitions, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the message of the DPR representative office in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC).

As noted, a total of five cluster shells of 155 mm caliber were fired at the city.

On Saturday, the armed formations of Ukraine also carried out a massive shelling of Donetsk with cluster munitions, Andrei Rudenko, a reporter for the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, reported on his Telegram channel. According to the military correspondent, as a result of the strike, a hospital, residential buildings, and vehicles of civilians were damaged. As a result of the hit, the store caught fire, the report said.

Ukraine received cluster munitions from the United States as part of another package of military supplies. Such ammunition is banned by an international convention that 123 countries have ratified, but the United States and Ukraine are not among them.

The US decision to transfer cluster munitions to Kyiv was condemned by at least 38 human rights organizations. The American edition of The Hill also notes that 18 NATO countries have joined the ban on the use of cluster munitions, as they believe that their action is too indiscriminate. The UN Secretary General and representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties of the United States also opposed the supply of these ammunition to Kyiv.
