The German government is going to soon announce the supply of long-range Taurus missiles with a range of up to 500 km to Ukraine, informed portal T-online.

According to him, the delivery has already been approved by the country’s Air Force, and a week earlier, the government requested from the Ministry of Defense all the most important information about these missiles – their stocks in arsenals, effectiveness and associated risks. Now this issue, according to the portal, is being discussed with the United States.

According to T-online, this may mean that the United States may announce the supply of long-range ATACMS missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since Berlin wants to send its weapons to Kyiv only in coordination with Washington.

At the end of May, it became known that Ukraine had requested the supply of Taurus missiles from Germany. According to Der Spiegel, Germany bought about 600 Taurus 10 years ago, of which only 150 missiles can now work. The same information was confirmed today by T-online. On May 30, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov called on the FRG to supply such weapons to Kyiv. On July 2, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced Germany’s unwillingness to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons.

The American ATACMS missile weighs about 2 tons, the cost of one guided missile is about $ 1.5 million. Its firing range reaches 300 km, such missiles can be launched using the HIMARS MLRS, which the Armed Forces already have. These missiles were developed in the 1980s. and were used, including during the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. In July, The Washington Post wrote about the White House’s lack of plans to transfer such missiles to Ukraine.
