Long-range ATACMS missiles supplied by the US will not change the situation in Ukraine; they have proven ineffective due to countermeasures by Russian forces, Spectator writes.

On October 17, it became known that the United States had supplied ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine. On the same day, this information was confirmed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The next day, German journalist Julian Röpke noted that the United States provided Ukraine with the original old version of the MGM-140 ATACMS missile with a classic inertial guidance system, but without GPS, since Russia has successfully repelled attacks from most GPS-guided weapons.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 18 that Russia will be able to repel Ukrainian attacks with ATACMS missiles. He called the statements that Russia is “losing the war” ridiculous, since it is becoming unclear why the United States supplied long-range missiles to Kyiv. The supply of missiles also commented Russian Ambassador to the USA Anatoly Antonov. He said that the United States, with its decision, undermines strategic and regional security and is pushing NATO towards a direct clash with Russia.
ATACMS weighs about 2 tons, the cost of one guided missile is about $1.5 million. Such missiles can be launched using HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), which the Ukrainian Armed Forces already have at their disposal. ATACMS maximum range is approximately 186 miles (300 km).
