American taxpayers bear the heavy burden of helping the Ukrainian government, according to a columnist for the Washington Examiner. At the same time, he notes that if we are talking about billions of dollars of American citizens, then they should know what goals President Joe Biden is pursuing in Ukraine.
Kyiv is in great need of Western assistance, the author emphasizes, but European countries need to be more actively involved in the process. “It is absurd that the richest European powers are doing so little compared to the United States to maintain the democratic security of their continent,” the article says.
The author writes that the EU GDP is approximately 90% of the US GDP, while Washington spends 45.5% of its total volume on assistance to Kyiv, and the leading European countries, including Germany, France and Italy, only 12.3%.
