The ambassadors of Russia and Belarus are again invited to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm this year. In 2022, they were not invited due to a special operation in Ukraine, reported Reuters with reference to the Nobel Foundation.

The Nobel Foundation said that ambassadors from all countries that have diplomatic representation in Sweden and Norway will be invited to the award ceremony in December.

“Obviously, the world is increasingly divided into areas where the dialogue between people with different views is reduced,” said Vidar Helgesen, executive director of the Nobel Foundation. He explained that the invitation pool is expanding to counter this trend and highlight the importance of free science, culture and peaceful societies.

The 2023 laureates will be announced at the beginning of October, and the awards ceremony will take place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.

In 2022, the Nobel Foundation decided do not invite Ambassadors of Russia and Belarus to the awards ceremony. In 2020 and 2021 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the ceremonies were held online, so the winners of these years were awarded in December 2022.
