McCarthy’s resignation is ‘a sad day for American democracy’, says Senator Manchin

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, in an interview with NBC, described the resignation of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy as “a sad event for America.” The vote that led to his removal from office divided the Capitol: 216 congressmen supported the decision, 210 opposed it.
According to Mancini, the resignation was “a sad day for the history of the country” and sent a “negative signal” to American democracy.
“It is a shame, for the first time in history, that we find ourselves in a situation where it is almost a political sin to cooperate with the other side,” the senator complained.
He expressed hope that a political compromise will be found, since cooperation between parties plays an important role in governing the country.
It should be noted that this is the first time the Speaker of the House of Representatives has been removed in US history. Congressmen made a similar attempt in 1910, but it ended in failure.
