Governor Georgy Filimonov recommended the current head of the regional department of road facilities and transport, Andrei Nakroshaev, for the position of the new mayor of Vologda. The current mayor of the city, Sergei Voropanov, announced his dismissal.
“I decided to resign. I want to say thank you to the Vologda residents for their support, questions, suggestions, criticism,” Mr. Voropaev wrote in Telegram channel.
Georgy Filimonov on meeting The regional government reported that Sergei Voropaev “will remain on the team in a different capacity.” Mr. Filimonov did not specify what position he will hold.
The governor added that Vologda does not need a politician, but a business executive. The new mayor, according to him, will have to reorganize the housing and communal services management system, develop the economy and infrastructure of the city.
Sergei Voropanov has served as mayor of Vologda since 2017. He became famous online thanks to short TikTok videos in which he talked about the city and his work as mayor. For them, in 2021 he received the “Runet Award”.
