Matvienko said there was no need to change the political structure of Russia

There is no need for drastic changes in the political structure of Russia, which is also evidenced by the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin about the elections in 2023 and 2024. This statement was made by the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko during the plenary session of the Federation Council.

“There is no need for any sharp fluctuations, for adjusting the current political structure. And the statement that all elections will be held as scheduled is the clearest evidence of this,” she stressed (quote according to RIA Novosti).

During his address to the Federal Assembly on February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin informedthat the 2023 regional elections and the 2024 presidential elections “will be held in strict accordance with the law, in compliance with all democratic constitutional procedures.”

The unified voting day will take place on September 10, 2023. On this day, elections of heads of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, as well as deputies of deputies of local parliaments, will be held in 20 regions. Also, residents of 12 regions will elect deputies of representative bodies of municipalities and administrative centers. This year, the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions will take part in the single voting day for the first time.

Presidential elections are scheduled for 2024 January 20 Chair of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova reportedthat the CEC has already begun preparations for them. After that, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the possibility of Putin’s participation in the presidential race in 2024, emphasizedthat the head of state has so far “did not make any statements on this matter.” After the President addressed the Federal Assembly, he informedthat is not aware of the possible time frame when such a statement could be made.

At the end of November 2022 Putin saidthat has not yet decided whether he will be re-elected for a new presidential term. Answering a question about what other goals he would like to achieve for Russia, the president said that “I would like to realize the plans that we have announced, the goals that we have set for ourselves in terms of the development of the country.”
