Matvienko announced the reduction of the list of candidates for the post of head of the Accounts Chamber

The Federation Council continues to work on the formation of the final list of three candidates for the post of chairman of the Accounts Chamber, chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko told reporters.

“We continue consultations. The initial list was large, now it has already narrowed, but we have not yet completed consultations and we have not yet decided on the three priority candidates that we must, in accordance with the Constitution, send to the president for consideration. We need more time, and here the rush is inappropriate, ”she said.

Matviyenko also urged in this regard not to “guess on the coffee grounds”, citing Professor Preobrazhensky’s advice from the story “Heart of a Dog” – “do not read newspapers before dinner.” She promised to inform the media about the final three candidates “even before sending the list to the president.”

Earlier, Vedomosti reported that the main candidate for the post of chairman of the Accounts Chamber was Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuichenko. This was confirmed by several sources close to the joint venture, the government and the Kremlin.

In addition to Chuichenko, Vedomosti sources also named Andrey Makarov, chairman of the Duma budget committee, Andrey Kutepov, chairman of the economic policy committee of the Federation Council, Vyacheslav Makarov, the first deputy head of the United Russia faction in the State Duma, and Mikhail Kotyukov, former speaker of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Deputy Minister of Finance Mikhail Kotyukov.

According to the current legislation, the appointment to the position of the head of the Accounts Chamber is carried out on the proposal of the head of state for six years. The President receives at least three candidates from the Federation Council for consideration and after that selects one and submits his candidature for approval to the senators. At the same time, one and the same person cannot hold the position of chairman of the joint venture for more than two consecutive terms.

Since 2018, the post of head of the joint venture has been occupied by Alexei Kudrin, who was dismissed ahead of schedule on November 30, 2022 and moved to work inYandex» as a corporate development advisor to the company. He worked as head of the Accounts Chamber for 4.5 years, his powers were to expire in 2024. Before that, the department was headed by Tatyana Golikova, who left the post due to her appointment as Deputy Prime Minister. Thus, Kudrin’s first term of office was to expire in May 2024.
