Master repairmen told which parts of household appliances are now in short supply

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Russia, there has been great turbulence in the supply of equipment and spare parts; this year, due to the sanctions war with the West, it has intensified significantly. And although hardware stores are not empty – almost all categories of goods are brought, although sometimes unusual brands, there are problems with spare parts for many models of household appliances. So, gas burners, bearings and some elements of refrigerators were in short supply. Why this happened and how to find a replacement – MK found out.
In fairness, let’s say that the sizzling shortage of spare parts that many expected this spring is no longer there in the fall. “Six months ago, I would have told you: take everything you might need for the future,” Fedor, a capital appliance repairman, told MK. “But I won’t tell you now, because more or less everything is there.”
Only two things have changed: the price of almost all items and delivery times. As the interlocutor of MK said, sometimes prices and terms turn out to be such that customers are forced to buy a new (even if not comparable in quality to the pre-crisis) product. Just because you need to wash (cook, store food) every day.
The most unexpected element that is in short supply now is the components for expensive European-made gas stoves. Essentially ordinary burners, burners, piezo ignition elements, taps. They usually last for many years, but if the owners are unlucky and they break, there can be problems.
“I have a German hob, which almost 20 years ago cost more than 50 thousand rubles,” retired Andrei Dolgov told MK. – This year, one burner began to work unevenly, ignition on two burners “died” a long time ago. Self-cleaning did not help, I called the master from the service center. I was told that the price of spare parts is about 70 thousand rubles, to wait a couple of months. I think to refuse: if the stove dies completely, I will buy a new simple one, even with installation it will be cheaper.
In a service center that deals with gas stoves of European brands, the MK correspondent was assured that spare parts for common models are available or delivered quickly. Problems can arise with really old copies, for which it is not so easy to find spare parts in Europe itself. One way or another, there is still a problem: those who got themselves “elements of the sweet life” twenty years ago may now face difficulties.
An identical situation has developed with plumbing. As a private plumber Anatoly Pavlovich told MK, spare parts for common inexpensive faucets or tanks are available, supplies have been arranged. But the fittings of built-in tanks, especially models that are outdated at the moment, are in short supply. Until this year, representative offices of plumbing brands brought these parts on request, now almost all of these brands have left Russia. The universal delivery time is the same two months, the price is negotiable, but the bill can run into tens of thousands.
“In some cases, we have to advise people to put a new tank of a simpler design,” says Pavlovich. – I noticed such a pattern: if these are the old owners who once installed a sophisticated built-in structure, then they are always against it. Like, it does not fit into the design, and in general, we had an expensive good thing … And if they are young, they can agree. Or, as an option, you can remake the built-in structure for another, modern fittings. But it’s not cheaper than ordering spare parts.
If we talk about the repair of washing machines and dishwashers, then at times there is, as the repairman Fedor says, an unexpected shortage of a common component – bearings. “They are always selected at face value, this is a standard product,” the master explains. – But this year it sometimes happens: there is no size anywhere. Or there is, but what I do not want to put to the client, it will fly almost immediately. China with plastic clips for example. As I ran into this, I created a small reserve. ”
Another deficit (which does not affect performance, however) is all kinds of decorative panels, shelves for refrigerators. But the key parts – heating elements, compressors, tubes – according to the interlocutor of MK, are available. True, prices are about one and a half times higher than a year ago (sometimes twice, depending on the position).
– A heating element for a washing machine now costs about 10 thousand, some brands are more expensive, – says Fedor. “As for compressors and fans in refrigerators, we have a trick here. Now we often install the compressors that we have: from Biryusa and from Biryusa – this is a standard unit, for most refrigerators they are interchangeable. We take fans from computer scientists – because branded, again, two months to wait and they are two to three times more expensive.
The most difficult situation is with spare parts for engineering equipment for private houses: AGV boilers, fecal pumps, water treatment plants. In many cases, spare parts from these units are non-standardized, only branded ones are suitable. And here the formula “wait two months, pay twice as much” works in full force. When we are talking, for example, about a heating boiler, this sounds, we agree, especially “optimistic”. And the masters do not offer any recipe, except to stock up on a new replacement product.
