Marina Tauber, vice-chairman of the Shor party, was detained at the airport in Chisinau

Vice-chairman of the Moldovan opposition party “Shor” Marina Tauber was detained at the airport in Chisinau, she planned to fly to Tel Aviv with a transfer in Istanbul, according to the website of the Republic’s Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

Tauber was detained on the basis of a prosecutor’s decision issued on May 1. It says that the politician violated the conditions provided for by the preventive measures. So, on April 28, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office petitioned to replace the measure of restraint with arrest, then Tauber demanded that the court session be postponed in order to go to Israel.

“Given that the accused had already violated the conditions set by the judges several times, the prosecutor’s office considered it necessary to detain the accused at the airport, since there was a significant risk that the accused would hide from the criminal investigation body,” the report says.

The politician on social networks pointed out the political nature of her detention.

“The authorities are so afraid that they want to arrest me, a request was filed by prosecutors to change the measure of restriction of my freedom, because I am active, I do not agree with them, I continue to fight for citizens, I continue to criticize them – it will be so. I didn’t know that there would be a court session to change the preventive measure,” stated politician in a video message (quote from RIA Novosti).

Earlier, a criminal case was initiated against Tauber for illegal financing of the Shor party, she was detained in the summer of 2022. According to the Acting Prosecutor General of Moldova, Dmitry Robu, the Shor party did not indicate in the financial report the expenses for organizing mass events in Chisinau on June 19 .
