Economic sanctions imposed by Washington against Venezuela are assessed by President Nicolas Maduro as a factor contributing to serious losses in the country’s economy. According to him, the total losses in the national economy, including the public and private sectors, from 2015 to 2022 amounted to $642 billion. The President expressed concern about the consequences, noting that such measures could be considered economic genocide.
Maduro stressed that Venezuela’s oil industry faced significant losses, exceeding $323 billion. In addition, the sanctions affected the national carrier Conviasa, depriving it of the ability to operate 40 of its aircraft.
In his annual address to the nation, the president also drew attention to the actions of the UK, which, in his opinion, improperly froze assets worth US$22 billion in Venezuela. These assets include 32 tons of Venezuelan gold held in British vaults.
