In France, the ruling party Forward, Republic! changed its name to “Renaissance”. This was reported on Sunday by Franceinfo.

According to the publication, the name is now officially enshrined in the new party charter. 87% of the congress participants voted for the charter.

The founder of the party, French President Emmanuel Macron, became the honorary chairman of the Renaissance.

“Forward, Republic!” was founded by Macron in 2016 to participate in the 2017 parliamentary elections and has since regularly participated in elections at all levels. This summer, Macron’s party won 245 seats. This is only 44 places less than the absolute majority.

Macron’s party is followed by the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (NUPES) of the left-wing parties in terms of the number of mandates, with 131 seats. The union includes the party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon “Unsubdued France”, as well as socialists, communists and “greens”.

For the first time, Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Assembly party came in third in terms of seats. She has 89 seats. In the previous parliament, Le Pen’s party had only 8 seats. Marine Le Pen has become Macron’s main rival in the spring presidential election. Jean-Luc Mélenchon called the loss of former positions by the presidential coalition a victory. He himself took 3rd place in the presidential election.

In an interview with AFP, Emmanuel Macron said that he was not going to cooperate with the “National Rally” and “Unconquered France”. According to the president, his coalition can negotiate with the right-wing Republican Party.
