French President Emmanuel Macron has asked the French not to panic over potential energy problems in the winter. In an interview with TF1, he said that the country will not experience difficulties even with a cold winter, if all citizens reduce electricity consumption by 10 percent.
“It depends on us. My message is to approach responsibly and in no case panic. Panic does not help, and it is groundless,” the head of state said. At the same time, he stressed that the government of the country is preparing for the most unfavorable scenarios, which may require a power outage for several hours. Macron noted that this is a necessity – sometimes events develop in an absolutely incredible way.
Earlier, the French energy network operator RTE informed about the risk of power outages in January. To reduce it, the French were advised to reduce electricity consumption. According to experts, the risk of interruptions may increase due to the protracted repair of French nuclear power plants. By early autumn, more than half of the 56 reactors were under repair or maintenance. Now power engineers are trying to get them back into operation as quickly as possible.
