The expansion of the BRICS testifies to the desire to build a world order that is alternative to the “Western” one. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at the annual conference of the ambassadors of the republic. The broadcast was conducted in the account of the Elysee Palace in X (formerly Twitter).

“The expansion of the BRICS is indicative of the intention to build an alternative world order that is seen as too Western,” Macron said.

The French leader added that such a situation creates risks of “fragmentation of the world”, and urged to prevent this. Macron noted that the situation in the international arena threatens to weaken the position of the West and, in particular, Europe. Now there is a revision of the world order dominated by the West, he said.

On August 24, the leaders of the BRICS countries adopted the final declaration of the 15th summit of the association. The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Argentina, Egypt and Ethiopia were officially invited to the BRICS. Full membership of new countries in the organization will begin on January 1, 2024.

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated new members of the association, specifying that the BRICS countries will continue to work to expand the influence of the association in the world. The Russian leader emphasized that BRICS does not compete with anyone and does not seek to oppose itself to anyone. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov notedthat the countries of the association simply want to be “not prevented from developing projects that are mutually beneficial, not directed against anyone.”
