Macron called on Putin to stop the special operation in Ukraine

Russia should stop the special military operation in Ukraine as soon as possible, restore the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, French President Emmanuel Macron said during a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. transmits Elysee Palace.

“He [Макрон] condemned the ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine and recalled its demand to end it as soon as possible, start negotiations and restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the statement said.

According to the French leader, the actions of the Russian armed forces became the reason why the integrity of the Zaporizhzhya NPP “is in danger”, in connection with which he pointed out the need to ensure the safety of the plant and called on the Russian side to “withdraw heavy and light weapons.” This will meet the safety requirements of the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which visited the site in early September.

The telephone conversation took place the day before, on September 11th. How informed The Kremlin, Putin drew Macron’s attention to the ongoing attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including on the storage of radioactive waste, “which is fraught with catastrophic consequences,” the Kremlin’s press service said.
