Military registration and enlistment offices of the Republic of Belarus will be able to carry out conscription or mobilization via SMS notification
The Head of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, signed a law on amendments to legislation relating to national security. One of the main innovations is the introduction of the ability to send SMS summonses from military registration and enlistment offices. This law was passed by the lower house of parliament on February 28 and approved by the upper house on March 20. The main goal of the law is to improve legal relations in the field of ensuring national security to more effectively respond to emerging challenges and threats.
In addition to introducing SMS subpoenas, the law also provides for adjustments to legislation in the field of defense and national security, labor, the legal status of foreign citizens and stateless persons, state social insurance, administrative offenses and procedural and executive legislation on administrative offenses.
According to the new law, citizens can receive information about the need to appear at a military commissariat or state security agency through SMS messages. During wartime mobilization, such a message will be considered analogous to a regular agenda. In peacetime, receiving an SMS message will become an additional source of notification. This will facilitate the process of informing citizens about important military recruitment events.
The law also provides that military commissars will have the right to restrict the travel outside of Belarus of citizens who violate military registration obligations and evade conscription. This will help maintain discipline and ensure accurate fulfillment of conscription duties.
In addition, the new law increases liability for administrative offenses related to the registration of citizens at conscription stations, conscription for military service and military registration and evasion of military conscription.
The provisions of the law come into force after official publication.
