The price of Russian gas for Minsk next year is fixed and profitable, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said after negotiations with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
“We have fixed our price, it is profitable for us. Russia helps a lot in this regard. We are satisfied with the results of the discussion of the single gas market as a whole and pricing for the next three years,” the Belarusian president said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
According to Lukashenka, “new topics have appeared in the field of gas supplies, it is not worth talking about them yet.”
The Belarusian leader previously stated that problems arose during the formation of a single gas market within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, in particular, the deadlines for the implementation of measures were disrupted.
In early September, Putin announced that Russia and Belarus would create a single gas market within the framework of the Union State. He clarified that the document would be signed before December 1, 2023. “In addition, it is envisaged to conclude an agreement on the unification of the markets for oil and oil products, as well as an agreement on a single electricity market,” Putin added.
In October, Putin came up with the idea of creating a new hub for Russian gas supplies. Dropped volumes of gas transportation to the EU (due to damage to the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines and sanctions against the latter) can be transferred from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. In this case, according to Putin, Turkey can become the largest gas hub. On October 19, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he had agreed with Putin on the creation of an international gas hub in the country. Later it became known that the gas distribution center within the framework of the hub project would be located in Thrace – in the north-west of the republic.
