Russian tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) will not be used while they are on the territory of Belarus. This was stated by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko.

“The more we live, the more we are convinced that it [ядерное оружие] should lie with us, in Belarus, in a safe place. And I am sure that we will never have to use it while we have it, and the enemy’s foot will never set foot on our land, ”said the Belarusian president (quote according to BelTA).

Defense Ministers of Russia and Belarus Sergei Shoigu and Viktor Khrenin signed documents in May that determine the procedure for keeping Russian tactical nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on the territory of Belarus. Shoigu explained the decision to send nuclear weapons to the neighboring republic by the activity of NATO nuclear missions, in particular in the European Union.

On June 27, Lukashenka announced that most of the tactical nuclear weapons had already been delivered to the territory of the republic. Then he declaredthat the republic will develop an algorithm for the use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons. “It should be based on the fact that we must use it in difficult times, if we are attacked. This means that they will attack, as they have already begun to say in Russia, the Union State,” the Belarusian leader said at the time.

In addition, Lukashenka stated that the idea of deploying tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of the country was his, and noted that he could coordinate the use of weapons with one call to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
