President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko did not appear at the ceremony of celebrating the Day of the flag, coat of arms and anthem of the republic. His appeal was read by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, reported in the press service of the Belarusian government.
On Sunday, May 14, a solemn ritual of honoring state symbols was held in Minsk on the State Flag Square. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Belarus Ivan Kubrakov, the head of the presidential administration Igor Sergeenko, as well as the chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova, follows from the reports of agencies and departments.
Lukashenka has not appeared in public since May 9, when he attended the Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow. On the same day, he was unable to attend a breakfast with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leaders of the CIS countries on May 9 in the Kremlin. After the military parade, he also did not walk along with other politicians to the Alexander Garden, but drove an electric car.
How explained Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, Lukashenka had to leave for Minsk to participate in the events. Peskov also declined to comment on Lukashenka’s state of health, noting that it “would be extremely incorrect.” The spokesman added that Moscow is “extremely grateful” to the Belarusian leadership, in particular the president, for participating in events in honor of Victory Day in Moscow.
Later, he took part in the parade in Minsk, and also laid a wreath at the Victory Monument, BelTA reported. However, for the first time in 29 years, he did not deliver a speech. On behalf of the President of Belarus, this was done by the Minister of Defense of the Republic Viktor Khrenin.
