Lukashenko believes that “Armenians are smart people” and will not leave the EAEU – Kommersant

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that Armenia will remain a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as he understands that thereby he will preserve an important direction of development. According to the Belarusian leader, Armenia “is not going anywhere.”

“If Armenia wants to die economically, then we can lose it. But I don’t think that Armenians are stupid people. These are smart people,” said Alexander Lukashenko at the EAEU summit.

When asked whether he was offended that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not attend the CSTO summit in Minsk, but arrived in St. Petersburg for the EAEU meeting, Mr. Lukashenko replied: “When I talked to him, I told him: “ Nikol Vovaevich, are you coming to St. Petersburg?” He says: “Well, this is a different format, economic. We are offended by the military-political, CSTO. And this is economics.” What’s the offense here? We are the Union State.”

According to the Belarusian president, the Armenian authorities know what happens when the United States abandons its allies. At the same time, he is convinced that Europe will also not be able to support Armenia. “Who will help them? There Europe, France is trying to do something. You see what is happening in France. They should figure it out for themselves, and then go to the Caucasus and try to do something there. They can’t figure it out for themselves. Armenians see this,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

Nikol Pashinyan explained refusal to participate in the CSTO summit in Minsk on November 23 due to reluctance “to join the logic according to which the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia are called into question.” According to him, the CSTO has not recorded its area of ​​responsibility in Armenia. In the Kremlin notedthat Russian President Vladimir Putin and Nikol Pashinyan “will have a great opportunity” to communicate on the sidelines of the EAEU summit and an informal meeting of the heads of the CIS.
