“Ratify the agreement between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of spent nuclear fuel management, signed in Sochi on November 21, 2022,” the text of the law says.
The Belarusian president also ordered the republic’s council of ministers to “take the measures necessary to implement the provisions of the agreement.”
On April 5, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that cooperation between the Russian Federation and Belarus in the nuclear field fully complies with Moscow’s international obligations in this area.
She noted that the parties are building a defense space within the framework of the Union State and have the right to resolve any issues of ensuring national security, based on the aggravation of external threats.
On March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the completion of the construction of a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) in Belarus by July of this year. The President noted that Moscow is not transferring nuclear weapons to Minsk, but is doing what the United States has been doing for many years – deploying tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of allies and training their pilots in handling them.
Russia has already handed over to the republic the Iskander complex, which can be the carrier of such weapons.
