Talk about the fact that the children of the current President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will become leaders of the state in the future must be stopped. Lukashenka made such a statement in an address to the people and parliament.
“We must stop all talk about heredity, about continuity. My children will not be presidents. You must remember and also not suck and not talk about this topic, ”he said.
Lukashenka also promised that he would not make “any constitutions for himself”. “You decide who will be your president. But I immediately say: I ate. <...> Until my last days in this position (I am not going to die), I will work for the good of our country. I will never be the lame duck, as they say. I have enough authority to protect my country, especially now,” he said.
The presidential elections in Belarus were held in August 2020. According to their results, the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko won 80.08% of the vote. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya also ran for the presidency, she won 10.09% of the vote. The opposition did not recognize the results of the vote, saying that Tikhanovskaya won the election and demanded new elections. After the elections, mass protests and clashes with the security forces began in the country, which lasted for several months. Tikhanovskaya herself then moved to Lithuania, from where she now conducts opposition activities. In March, the court in absentia sentenced her to 15 years in prison.
