Lukashenka: Belarus brought most of the Russian nuclear weapons

Most of the Russian tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) were delivered to Belarus. President of the country Alexander Lukashenko spoke about this at the ceremony of presenting shoulder straps to the highest officers.

“They will guard them there, and they are guarding them today, since some of the nuclear weapons (I won’t say how many), most of them have already been brought to Belarus. It’s amazing that they didn’t track it down. Russians and Belarusians are guarding,” Lukashenka explained (quote from BelTA).

At the same time, the President of Belarus denied the information that the Wagner PMC would guard nuclear weapons, as “Poles and others” wrote about it. He called the reports that the warheads would be guarded by Yevgeny Prigozhin’s PMC a hoax. “This is our task. And I am primarily responsible for the safety of weapons. Therefore, we will never go for it. We have enough guys who are able to guard this facility together with the Russians,” Lukashenka stressed.

June 16 at the plenary session SPIEF Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the first Russian nuclear warheads had already been delivered to the territory of Belarus. The deployment of weapons will begin after July 7-8, when the preparation of the relevant structures is completed, Putin previously reported. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov June 23 clarifiedthat Russia does not plan to publish information on the number of nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus.

At the end of May, Russian and Belarusian defense ministers Sergei Shoigu and Viktor Khrenin signed documents defining the procedure for keeping Russian nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on the territory of the republic. Shoigu cited the activity of NATO’s joint nuclear missions as the reasons for this decision, including the training of pilots of non-nuclear countries of the alliance in the use of American nuclear bombs stored in Europe.
