Low-carbon development strategy to be revised due to sanctions

Due to the limited access of the Russian side to Western low-carbon technologies, the authorities will revise the plan for the strategy of Russia’s socio-economic development until 2050. According to Ilya Torosov, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development, the ministry expects to replace Western investments with financing of environmental projects by friendly countries.
“We look forward to attracting Chinese and Arab investors. Issues of climate cooperation are included in the agenda of intergovernmental commissions, including those with India and China,” Mr. Torosov said. RBC.
According to him, now the Ministry of Economic Development, together with other sectoral ministries, is working on measures to minimize the effect of sanctions on the energy transition.
The strategy for the socio-economic development of Russia was approved by the government in October 2021. IN document it is indicated that by 2050 net greenhouse gas emissions should be reduced by 2.5 times compared to 2019 – up to 630 million tons.
