Against the backdrop of hostilities in Ukraine, the flow of tourists to France has decreased, said Alexandra Borchio-Fontimp, president of the Côte d’Azur France Tourism Committee (CRT Cte d’Azur France). According to her, the losses from the loss of Russian tourists in 2022 will amount to more than €50 million.
She said that in 2019, Russians were in ninth place among foreign travelers on the French Riviera. They accounted for 4.5% of the total number of nights booked by foreign tourists, as well as 7% of the Côte d’Azur’s revenue from international tourism, i.e. almost €300 million.
“The current crisis in Ukraine and, as a result, the loss of Russian clientele will affect tourism on the Cote d’Azur: this will mean a loss of income in the amount of more than €50 million in 2022,” Borchio-Fontimp told RIA Novosti. She added that compared to 2019, the number of Russian tourists on the Cote d’Azur this summer increased by 30%.
According to Ostrovok.ru, Italy, Spain and France were popular with independent tourists from Russia this summer. OnlineTur.ru stated that the most popular summer destinations for organized tours were Turkey, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and the Maldives. Abkhazia has become the most growing destination for summer travel this year, partially replacing Crimean resorts and some foreign destinations.
