President Vladimir Putin supported the proposals of Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko to change the extended producer responsibility (EPR) mechanism, reports RBC. Ms. Abramchenko’s initiative assumes that manufacturers will be responsible for the disposal of all packaging.
RBC refers to a letter from the Deputy Prime Minister sent to the President on July 29. According to the document, Victoria Abramchenko asked to support the transfer of responsibility for the disposal of packaging to its manufacturers. This norm, as already reported, is proposed to be introduced from January 1, 2025. A spokesperson for Ms. Abramchenko declined to comment on the letter.
The EPR system, under which manufacturers and importers must be responsible for the disposal of their goods and their packaging, began to operate in 2014.
