Australian skincare brand Aesop to be bought by L’Oreal in a $2.5 billion deal. It is noted that this is the largest deal in the history of L’Oreal. The new acquisition will significantly increase the presence of the French concern in the niche of high-quality natural cosmetics.
Aesop was founded by Melbourne hairdresser Dennis Paphitis in 1987 and has gained a following in animal-free skin, hair and body care products. The brand became known for its apothecary-style bottles wrapped in plain white and black labels, which have become a recognizable attribute in hotels and restrooms of trendy restaurants around the world. Aesop has about 400 stores in America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia, according to L’Oreal, including two stores in Shanghai that opened last year. The deal is expected to close in the second half of the year.
