According to the head of the British Ministry of Defense, Grant Shapps, the refusal of the Israeli authorities to recognize a Palestinian state is very disappointing, since the Palestinians deserve sovereignty.

According to CNN, Shapps expressed dissatisfaction with this decision, emphasizing that the whole world adheres to the two-state solution as the optimal path to resolving the conflict. Shapps added that the British government fully supports the concept.

The British minister explained that a Palestinian state “must be sovereign on the Palestinian side” and also “provide security guarantees on the Israeli side.” There is no other way out of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, he clarified.

Earlier, Britain’s shadow foreign secretary, David Lammy, supported President Biden’s call for a two-state solution to the conflict. Lammy condemned the statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, considering them unacceptable, and emphasized that the Palestinians deserve a state.
