Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has announced his intention to run for re-election in the 2024 elections.

Nausėda hopes that the people of Lithuania will give him “a strong mandate of trust, as they did in 2019.” Then he defeated the current Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte in the second round.

The current 59-year-old head of state is the favorite in public opinion polls. Nausėda’s main rivals are considered to be Šimonytė and lawyer Ignas Wegele. In total, over 10 people announced their participation in the elections.

Elections for the country’s first person in Lithuania will take place in May.
