The Medininkai checkpoint on the border with Belarus has resumed its activities, the State Border Committee of Belarus (SBC) reported.
At 21:00, the registration of persons and vehicles at the Kamenny Log checkpoint (the adjacent Lithuanian checkpoint Medininkai) was fully resumed.
On Saturday, the CPC was informed that the Lithuanian authorities blocked traffic at the Medininkai checkpoint. Responsibility for the aggravation of the situation at the border and the formation of queues was assigned to the Lithuanian side and it was stated that the Belarusian side was ready to carry out the passage.
Meanwhile, the reason for the closure of the Lithuanian border crossing point Medininkai was, according to Delfi.lt with reference to the Elta agency, an incident with a citizen of Pakistan. This was stated by the representative of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service Giedrius Mishutis. According to him, on July 7, a man tried to enter Lithuania using fake documents on the Minsk-Vilnius shuttle bus. “A citizen of Pakistan showed a fake Romanian identity card to the border guards,” Mishutis said. He explained that the Pakistani, suspected of wanting to enter EU countries without a visa, was dropped off the bus. The man was reportedly supposed to return to the country of entry, but Belarus refused to accept him.
The Belarusian side claims that the traveler refused to leave the territory of Lithuania. The CPC of Belarus also stated that the man crossed the border with valid documents.
