Lithuania is preparing, following Estonia and Latvia, to dismantle Soviet monuments. The mayor of Vilnius, Remigius Simasius, promised that the demolition of the monument in the capital would be “respectful,” writes the telegram channel BALTNEWS.
Šimašius emphasized that this would not be a dismantling, but a transfer.
“He will be moved in a respectful and clear manner. Whether it will be filmed in parts, in separate segments, will be decided. It is also a matter of technical capabilities,” the mayor said.
The country’s authorities hope that they will be able to avoid protests with detentions, as was the case in Latvia.
Recall that in early June, the Vilnius City Council unanimously decided to demolish the memorial to the soldiers of the Red Army at the Antakalnis cemetery.
