Lithuanian authorities can confiscate cars registered in Russia. About it stated the country’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Jovita Neliupšėne in an interview with LRT radio.
“Anyone who crosses the border, whether a Russian citizen or an EU citizen, with plates registered in Russia, if he does not have supporting documents proving that he is in transit to Kaliningrad, he should know that his car will be confiscated,” – Nelyupshene said.
She added that Russians can now cross the border “only if they have the right to do so” – either by bus or on foot.
Earlier, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic, Agne Bilotaite, referring to the clarification on the import of Russian vehicles into EU countries, said that cars registered in the Russian Federation should be confiscated, since this is the “function” of the country’s customs authorities.
On September 8, the European Commission (EC) published an explanation on the import of Russian vehicles into the EU. According to the document, Russian transport, regardless of whether it is used for private or commercial purposes, can be arrested. In addition to vehicles, Russian citizens are prohibited from temporarily bringing with them things the import of which from Russia is prohibited to EU countries. It was clarified that the list of restrictions includes laptops, smartphones, cosmetics, etc.
